Five decks of phrases people really say in Taiwan, each card with zhuyin, pinyin and Lin's voice. Flip, then tell it honestly: knew it, or again.

    How the cards work

Each round gives you up to ten cards: the ones due today first, then new ones. Say the line out loud before you turn the card, then be honest. "Knew it" sends the card further out: tomorrow, then two days, four, a week. "Again" brings it back at the end of this round.

Every card is a line Lin recorded for the Bopomo app, with a Taiwan accent and traditional characters. Readings are written the way they're said: 一 and 不 change tone before other syllables, so 一張 is yì zhāng and 不用 is búyòng.

    Questions

    Are these Taiwan Mandarin phrases?

Yes. They're the words used in Taiwan (捷運 for the metro, 機車 for a scooter, 外帶 for takeaway), in traditional characters, said by a Taiwanese voice.

What do zhuyin and pinyin on the cards mean?

Both write the sound. Zhuyin is Taiwan's own alphabet (ㄋㄧˇ ㄏㄠˇ) and pinyin uses Latin letters (nǐ hǎo). Show either on the front, or neither, to test yourself harder.

How does the spaced repetition work?

Cards move between boxes. Knowing a card moves it up a box and further into the future; missing it sends it back to the start. Three boxes up counts as known. It's the Leitner system, kept simple.

    Do I need an account?

No. Your progress is saved in this browser only. Clearing your site data or using a private window starts you fresh.

Why say the card out loud before turning it?

Recognising a phrase is easier than producing it. Saying it first tests the thing you'll need in Taiwan, and hearing Lin right after shows you how close you were.
