What's in the quiz
Each day's ten questions mix three kinds:
- Listen and pick: Lin says a phrase and you choose what it means. This is the one that matters most on a trip, where nobody shows you the characters.
- Read and pick: a phrase in traditional characters with its zhuyin, and four meanings to choose from.
- Name the tone: Lin says one syllable and you pick first, second, third or fourth tone.
The phrases come from the flashcard decks: survival phrases, greetings, numbers and money, night market food and getting around. If a question stumps you, that deck is the place to practise it. For tones, the tone trainer goes on as long as you like.
When you finish you get a score and a row of squares to share, with no answers in it, so friends can take the same quiz without spoilers.

Questions
Does everyone get the same quiz?
Yes. The ten questions are picked from the date, so everyone who opens it on the same day in Taiwan time gets the same set, and you can compare scores.
What level is it?
Beginner: the phrases you'd need on a first trip to Taiwan. If you've done a few weeks of Mandarin, aim for 8 out of 10.
Can I take it again?
Your first score of the day is the one kept and shared. You can review the answers as often as you like, and tomorrow brings a new set.
Is it Taiwan Mandarin?
Yes: words used in Taiwan, traditional characters, and Lin's Taiwan accent on every clip.
